I guess since I'm writing all this information you might want to know a bit about our family.
Hi! My name is Darlene and my husband is Jim. We are senior citizens still working at a job. We have two kids named Lady, 1/2 Husky-1/2 Collie and Kelsey, a Shetland Sheepdog or Sheltie. You will meet them in a minute.
Jim and I live on a mountain in the Rockies with beautiful views of Pikes Peak and the Sangre De Cristo range. It is fantastic here. The winters are relatively mild, although we do have some feet of snow and the summers are comfortable. We love nature and have some wild "friends" that come by all year round. It is peaceful and relaxing especially on the drive home from work. Stress just melts away.
Jim and I have grown up with dogs. Between us we have about 114 years (oh my gosh, does that really make me feel old!) of dog ownership. We've trained, cared for, loved and said goodbye to many mixed and pure breed dogs in our lives.
As mentioned on the homepage, Jim and I were in love with Lassie in the 50's so when we married in 1978, we decided on the Collie as our family dog. Over the past 31 years we have had 4 Collies, a Golden Retriever we adopted, 2 Shelties and a mix we also adopted from our local shelter.
We don't claim to be experts in the dog field but we thought that sharing some of our experience might help make it a little easier for others contemplating a puppy or new dog or trying to break the habit of an established pet.
Anyway, on to the introduction of our family dogs.

This is Lady. She's about 8 years old, the vet figures. We adopted her when she was about 1 1/2 years old from our local shelter. She was abused and found running loose in the town for a few months. She had lots of problems and fears. She was afraid of everything, our hands, brushes, towels, feet, brooms, well, you get the idea. It took us years to help her become a normal dog. But it was worth it. Lady has become a wonderful part of our family and we are grateful we had the chance to save her life and give her a loving home.
Now on to, as he is affectionately known as, "The Beast".

Say Hi to Kelsey. We call him "The Beast" because he is so little he thinks he is a ferocious guard dog. Kelsey is a Shetland Sheepdog. He was the last of a litter of 8 pups and is considered undersized at 13" at the shoulder and weighing about 20 pounds. He's so cute and such a little guy he is the big bad watch dog of the family and acts like it. Kelsey is from champion agility parents and he is as quick as lightening. If I was younger and in better shape, I'd have trained him for the sport, but, oh well. And yes, he does require lots of brushing. Once a week and about every two months both Lady and Kelsey go to the groomer for bath and comb outs.
Now you've met our "kids".

Our guys travel with us and had to learn to behave properly both in the car and in hotel rooms. I have passed on some of those tips in the traveling with your pet section.
We have written this website at the urging of friends and family who have asked for our help with their dogs over the years. They said it was a good idea to get our experiences out there for everyone to try.
We have never composed a website before so please bear with us. However, we would never have started it at all but for SBI.
We will be adding more to our site, tips, help, organizations, etc. whatever you may need to keep you and your pet happy. It was nice meeting you and we look forward to more "talks" as we grow.
Oh yea, what is SBI?
