There are two popular types of dog competitions. Flyball and Frisbee.

If you've ever played ball or frisbee with your pet, then he has all the training needed to compete.

The photo above is Katie, a Shetland Sheepdog, making a perfect frisbee catch.

Flyball is a new competition based on team work among dogs. Any breed can play.

Equipment is a jump and a tennis ball shooter on the ground.

The dogs are divided into teams. At the start, the dog runs, jumps over the pole and runs to the tennis ball shooter, steps on the release and catches the ball. Then he runs back, jumping over the pole to the start line and the next dog takes off.

The team that completes the contest with the fastest time wins.

Well trained dogs are required for this event. The animals race each other and there could be fighting or bumping so dogs must not be aggressive or hostile.

Frisbee There is really no training involved in this sport except what you have been doing with your dog all along.

The breeds best suited for this event is sporting and herding dogs.

The dogs are scored on how many discs they catch within a certain time frame.

Owners even get creative with throwing the frisbee to their pet, like over the back, under the leg, etc.

Don't know if this helps with the winning of the contest, but it sure looks cool!
