Dog Spay Neuter

A must for responsible pet ownership is dog spay neuter. You and your canine friend will be a lot happier when this is done.

Do not plan on breeding your pet. Leave it to the professional breeders out there. They have many years experience and know what they are doing.

Your veterinarian will recommend this procedure when your puppy reaches 6 months to 1 year old. It is best to have it done early to avoid problems later on with in tact males or in heat females.

Having your dog "fixed" is a very simple process and will prevent unwanted litters that contribute to the overpopulation of dogs in shelters and pounds. And it saves lives.

Your pup is anesthetized and the reproductive organs are removed. Usually an overnite stay for observation is required by your vet.

Your pet goes home with some antibiotics and instructions to keep him/her quiet for a week. That is easier said than done. Been there! This is where crate training comes in real handy.

Keep an eye on the area to make sure there is no discharge or stitches coming out.

Most vets use stitches that dissolve internally and external stitches to hold everything together. The external ones will be removed in about 10-14 days. Then your little guy or gal will be rarin' to go!
