Dogs and Ancient Societies
In the B.C. periods of the history of the world, dogs and ancient societies were very popular.
In Egypt, Anubus, the Dog God, controlled the afterlife. Many kings had their faithful pets buried with them for protection and companionship in the hereafter.
It is interesting that the ancient hound breeds were the popular canines of Egypt. Canines such as the Saluki, Afghan, Besenji and others were owned by kings and pharaohs.
In Greece, ancient mythology showed dogs as messengers of the gods. Cerebus, the 3 headed dog, guarded the gates of hell. In African mythology, dogs were looked at as good or bad. Some believed the dog brought death, while others showed them as guardians and protectors.
Even some of the Native American culture of the U.S. believed that God was a dog before our planet existed. Dogs were given a prominent place in the home as a member of the family. What is dog spelled backwards? Yep!
