Dogs and HistoryAbout 10,000 years ago, give or take, dogs and history began. The first domestic canine was the wolf and that makes our pets their descendants.
Humans and wolf-dogs came together because, basically, dogs are scavengers and the human settlements at the time attracted them. People appreciated the "dogs" cleaning up the garbage and keeping out unwanted predators and disease carrying animals.
