Time for Puppy House Training

puppy housetraining

Puppy house training or potty training should start immediately. Puppies need to go plenty of times during the day and sometimes night. They are like human babies except they don't wear diapers.

Repetition is the key. You will find it won't take long for your puppy to know where he is suppose to go.

Always remember pups need to GO first thing in the morning after waking up, after meals, after playing, after napping and before bedtime.

Take him to his "spot" and let him do his thing. And as always, lots of praise for doing what he is suppose to.

House training and other essentials you must have for your new puppy can be found on the Puppy Supplies page of this section.

If you have a large home and the back door or papers are far away, pick the puppy up and carry him to his area.

If you don't there will be accidents. His small organs can't hold it very long right now and when he has to go, he has to GO!

Are you in an apartment? Yes, throwing on your clothes, shoes, coat and scooping the pup up under your arm and running like a linebacker down the hall isn't a pretty sight.

So find a private area in your apartment, put down some papers or pads and the problem is solved.

As the puppy gets older he will be able to let you know when he has to go and will be able to hold it longer.

Then you can take him for leisurely walks and he will take care of business.

Remember, the sooner you start showing him where to potty, the quicker he will learn. Always praise him for a job well done.
