Shorthair Dog Breeds

When it comes to grooming your dog yourself, shorthair dog breeds are the easiest to take care of.

You will find these dogs come from all of the dog breed groups. And you don't have to worry about getting them into the tub or near the water hose, because most of them love water.

Some of the most popular short hair dog breeds are:

Labrador Retriever

Pit Bull Terrier

Chihuahua

Dalmatian

Corgi

Blue Heeler

Beagle

Dachshund

just to name a few.

You can find more information about these dogs in the section Best Dog Breeds.

Years ago we adopted a Golden Retriever and he was great to groom. Basically, all you need is a pin brush and comb.

Start at the rear, raise the hair and brush underneath all the way up to the head and then brush the outer hair.

Pay particular attention to the feathers, pants and tail. Comb him out and he's ready for his bath.

Wet your dog thoroughly, shampoo, rinse, condition, rinse, towel dry, then blow dry and fluff while drying.

Comb him out after you are finished drying him and he will look like a million.

If you take this dog out hunting, you may have to comb out stickers and mats, so use a mat comb.

Your pet might be a breed that has long ears. If so, air might not circulate inside to keep the ear clean and free of wax and dirt. Ear wipes are great for cleaning out debris and keeping the ears in healthy condition.

Told you these dog breeds were a breeze to groom. Now you and your best friend are ready to go out on the "hunt" and have some fun.
